Chartering a yacht in Greece

Greece is famous for its islands. Travellers all around the world dream of having the chance to visit at least one of them and they usually choose the most famous ones, like Santorini, Myconos, Rhodes or Crete. But there are so many other wonderful islands! So, how about having the chance to kill two birds (or more) with one stone? Chartering a yacht in Greece is a great idea to sail around two or three islands and see in a week the hidden beauty of Saronic gulf, Ionian Sea or the Sporades.

Some days ago we had the chance to try such experience and see by ourselves the benefits of choosing a yacht or a sailboat to sail in the Saronic. We had a really great time and we totally recommend it for groups or families. We visited Spetses and Poros and we also had the time to swim around Hydra and Aegina. So many places and waters for only two and a half days, don’t you think?

Kavas Yachting

For this experience we chose the company Kavas Yachting (www.kavas.com) and a sailingboat Beneteau 46.1 which had 5 cabins and 3 bathrooms. In the boat there was also a kitchen and a sitting room. We were 9 people on the sailboat and it was quite enought to fulfill everyone’s wishes! The front cabins are bigger as the ceiling is higher. Though all cabins are no more for two people each.

The main area with the sitting room and the kitchen is well equipped and it is ideal for families who have kids as parents can cook kid’s food even when they are sailing. Fridge is big enough and don’t forget that you don’t have to buy everything from the begining. You can purchase meat or fish (or other dairy products) from the islands you visit.

The benefits of traveling on a sailing boat or a yacht are multiple.

  1. You have the chance to see a lot of places during your vacations.
  2. You can stop (almost) wherever you want and have a swim in the most wonderful waters
  3. You can come close to nature and sea animlas (we actually saw dolphins!)
  4. You can be with a group of friends and have fun onboard

Personal View

For us it was a time of family bonding, relaxation, sea/diving enjoyment and island hopping.

Family bonding

How many times do you have the chance to be 24 hours with your kids? By chartering a yacht or a sailboat you can have fun with your kids, find time to spend quality time with them and talk with them like never before. Personally, we thought it was some of our best vacations with our daughter being super happy for having us so both close at the same time.

Relaxation

Chartering a yacht or being on a sailboat and travelling from destination to destination will give you the opportunity to have plenty of time to relax as well. We finally had the chance to talk with my husband about other stuff than everyday planning, work and school. Being on board at night is also a great opportunity to have a drink or a snack with your friends on deck and enjoy the calmness of the ports.

Tip: Food and cooking is not including. Thought you can always ask politely from your skipper to help you make a greek salad or some easy greek recipes!

Enjoy diving and swimmng

For my daughter the best thing was diving in the blue greek sea and having fun. Dark blue, light blue, emerald, turquiose waters…. to enjoy and have fun with your friends and family. Of course, not every spot is ideal for you to dive. So, trust your skipper and according to your preferences ask him to stop to waters where they are ideal for you and your family.

Island Hopping

Seeing two, three or maybe four islands in a week is ideal for those who love exploring new places as well. For us who stayed only for less than three days visitng Spetses and Poros was a blast.

Spetses is ideal for those who like luxury and cosmopolitan life while Poros is for those who like picturesque greek island with great (more budget) choices and excellent sea food. We loved both islands and we had plenty of photos!

Kavas.com offers a wide variety of island choices so you can talk with the experts and decide according to your time, mood, taste and budget what do you want to see. Chartering a yacht or a sailboat in Greece has never been so easy!
